The Association of Jewish Lawyers of Argentina (Asociación de Abogados Judíos de la República Argentina) principal aim is to gather Jewish lawyers and jurists from law firms, the judiciary, Congress and the corporate world. As an NGO from a democratic society, our main objective consists in the defense of the institutions that favor a life in peace, with fair economic, social and cultural development, and with the main values of the Jewish people as an endless source of democracy, pluralism and wisdom.
We believe that as lawyers we have a responsibility that distinguishes us from other citizens. We must affirm the core values of the career we chose. Indeed, we form part of a small group of privileged people: we have the monopoly of one power of the State, and a de facto hegemony in the other two. It is imperative that we assume the delicate responsibility of assuring the healthiness of the democratic institutions, which is the only way to have a peaceful life for us who constitute a small community.
The Jewish community in Argentina is undergoing times of great fragmentation, and it is necessary to help restore the balance that allowed us to survive as a group, despite the passing of time and the many extermination attempts.
Under this perspective, we should assume the responsibilities we have as citizens, lawyers, and Jews.
